Flashcards
What are Angiosperms?
Angiosperms are the most advanced group of plants characterized by the presence of flowers, seeds enclosed within a fruit, and true roots, stems, and leaves. They are the primary focus of the chapter on sexual reproduction in flowering plants.
Explain the origin of a flower from a plant's vegetative parts.
Flowers originate from specialized modifications of leaves. A hormone called Florigen, produced in the leaves, travels to the Shoot Apical Meristem (SAM), causing it to transform into a Floral Meristem. This Floral Meristem then develops into floral buds, which mature into a complete flower.
